a moveable feast

I spent the last week in paris being all cultured and seeing art exhibitions and stuff.


I stayed with my girlfriend at her mother's house in Falguiere, which was pretty awesome. These are mostly from an exhibition at the Museé de Quai Branly.


I've been playing farrrrrrr too much pokemon, considering I've been in, you know, Paris.


I bred my first pokemon, though! It's a hardy-natured tyranitar with Dragon Dance. if you're, uh, interested.


These last two are statues from the Orsay. Above is Abel (of Cain & Abel fame) and below is goethe, who has an amazing head.

hey look i can do stuff with halftone

So I had some pieces of location drawing that I sorta liked but were a little sketchy and unfinished so I thought I'd go crazy with photoshop and spruce them up a bit using its awkward and limited halftone filter.

I don't have a tablet and pen that works with this computer, but I think the jagged, mouse-drawn edges make it look nice, in an Ashley Wood kind of way. zip tone sort of looks like this if you cut it up with a scalpel, anyway.

From top to bottom these are: 

- some aztec sculptures I drew at the Montezuma exhibit that's on in London right now

- a mask on my wall at home that my dad apparently got from Thailand (I remember it being on the wall in his old flat, it used to creep me out)

- one of the larger docks (empty) at falmouth, a town near where I live where I did my foundation a coupla years ago.

latter two I drew over christmas, the first one I did on a trip into london a while ago.

In unrelated news, I just saw Avatar and, despite my best intentions of disliking it, I thought it was one of the best films out this year. Maybe I'll write a review or something, but I'd be interesting to hear what other people think of it and why.

I feel like an ego boost so I'm posting some examples of life drawing I don't hate that I've done fairly recently.

This is the door to my bedroom at home.
I really need to start adding more shades of grey to my ink work, this one isn't particularly well observed but it fleshes out the volume really well. Crosshatching just doesn't cut it sometimes!

This one is my good buddy Exit, my university comrade, and (as of pretty recently) my girlfriend.
I really like this one, I think it has a degree of character to it I want to get in all my drawings of people.

This one's of a crane that's near where I live.
It's pretty indulgently shaded but I think that works in its favour.

COMIC EXPO DRAWINGS

I walked around and talked to people and my friend and I handed out almost all of the flyers I made. I bought a ton of stuff, too. And look! I did some drawings.

I didn't get to talk to Kate Beaton, though, she was mobbed the whole day and I didn't want to bother her or anything. She sold out of her little hand made books really early on, too.

All in all, though, a fun day.
